January Jones - Daily Mail.jpg

Our little town made the news this week... in London!

Mad Men star January Jones (Betty Draper) was photographed by the Daily Mail, one of Britain's largest papers. She was doing something here character on the show would have seen a staple of life:  grocery shopping.

Miss Jones was dressed like any other “Felizian,” jeans, a loose white blouse and sunglasses. She looked beautiful and elegant, but, of course, even a television start doesn't go to the grocery store in a ballgown.

“I wouldn't know how to cope,” she told the Daily Mail, when asked about how she would handle having the life of her alter-ego Betty Draper.

Jones plays the now exwife of the show's star Don Draper (Jon Hamm) on the AMC hit series. Her character is an almost stereotypical 1960's housewife, dedicated to raising her children and serving her husband. Jones plays the character with more complexity as it is apparent that Betty Draper has more energy than that, but doesn't appear to have a place to put it.

John Sowden House Hits The Market

Sowden House - 5121 Franklin Avenue - $4,888,000

An awe-inspiring, magical, Mayan style masterpiece. Built in 1926 and designed by Lloyd Wright (Frank Lloyd Wright’s son), Wright uses the same textile block system his father used in the Millard House. The result is an iconic Mayan style masterpiece measuring 5,600 square feet on a secluded 14,000+ lot.

Extensive restorations from 2002-09 by Xorin Balbes, the home now accommodates modern living while preserving the Architects master work.

Despite the hiss of criticism he received from architectural purist Balbes’ restorative remodel successfully created a modern day sanctuary.  Featured in Architectural Digest, the renovation ushered in a new era of activity as the Sowden House has become a favored location for celebrity fundraisers, movie shoots, TV shows, commercials, and corporate getaways.  It is also often know as the "black dalia" murder home.
