Ben Scott now at the helm of the Messhall Bar

Mixologist Ben Scott

Mixologist Ben Scott

In Los Feliz, one of our favorite local establishments has a new bar manager. The place is called MessHall (4500 Los Feliz Blvd. at Hillhurst) and Ben Scott is now in charge.

Scott is a NY-to-LA transplant, and lacks the pretension many managers seem to have. He came to California with his girlfriend, who wanted to pursue a writing career in a new, sunnier, warmer place. Initially, he worked crappy movie studio jobs but then switched to bartending at Lukshon.

Today, Scott oversees MessHall, which is known for burgers and such, but also its wide array of drinks. If you’re looking to sample a variety of American whiskeys in Los Feliz, MessHall is the place to go nowadays. Indeed, MessHall stocks some harder-to-find whiskeys you don’t normally drink at home, such as Balcones Brimstone and Monterey Rye. In addition, barrel aged cocktails are available.

While in Los Feliz, MessHall is worth a visit; see their website at www.messhallkitchen.com or call 323-660-6377 for more information. And if you see a guy there people call Ben, say hello and ask him to recommend a drink for you!

This Saturday at Barnsdall Park.....

Over 2000 LA-based artists (from students to anyone with an artistic inclination) will line up at Barnsdall Park on March 22nd from 10AM to 6PM for a once in a lifetime opportunity to exhibit their work in a public forum (a true democracy of art and part of Barnsdall’s quest to make LA art more accessible). The work will then be showcased at LAMAG from March 30 through April 12 in the newly reconfigured 10,000 square foot art space. As LA’s only municipal art gallery, Barnsdall is truly the “People’s Park” as the City’s primary exhibition venue offering free admission to all and through Open Call, providing an opportunity for emerging artists and students to exhibit their artwork and achieve recognition through cash prizes including One Best in Show ($1000), One Honorable Mention ($150) and Three Youth Art Awards ($50).

Open to all artists residing in SoCal, $20 per artist per piece, up to 3 works of art per artist. Please see link for entry details:http://www.lamag.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/OpenCallreviseds.pdf
