Los Feliz Living
Los Feliz is the neighborhood that sits at the foot of Griffith Park, the one Colonel Griffith J. Griffith carved out of the old Rancho Los Feliz and handed to the city in 1896 on the condition that it remain free and public. The bookstore is the heart of it. The two movie houses are the lungs. The Mexican joints and the Italian rooms and the tiki bar that has been open since 1961 are the muscle. The Craftsman bungalows on Vermont and the Wright houses in the hills are the bones. This is the directory of the places that make Los Feliz Los Feliz, the ones I send people to when they ask, the ones I walk to myself.
Look for the ★. We've marked the Mayors of Los Feliz, the bartenders, owners, programmers and lifers who make a place feel like itself. Tell them we sent you. The black NEW tag means newly opened, with the month so you can judge for yourself. And the ♥ is a Debbie's Pick, places I personally love.
